HISTORY

Sala Roxy originally opened as the Cine Roxy in 1937, becoming for decades one of Guadalajara's most important cultural complexes. After a fire and years of neglect, it re-emerged in the 1990s as a key venue for the alternative art and music scene, hosting concerts by national and international bands and establishing itself as "The Cathedral of Rock." However, it faced multiple closures until its final shutdown in 2005.

In 2014, the building was at risk of disappearing, but it was rescued in 2016 with the aim of preserving its historical value and promoting culture in the city. Although the pandemic temporarily halted its reopening, Sala Roxy reopened its doors in 2024 as a diverse and inclusive cultural space.

Today, Sala Roxy is once again establishing itself as a meeting point for artistic, musical, and social expressions, keeping its historical legacy alive through festivals, exhibitions, and new cultural concepts.
